Did you know the wisteria flower means welcome in the language of flowers?

Well, it does, and if you listen very carefully to the ones here, you’ll hear them ask you if you’d like some coffee and cookies.

A lot has happened over the last few days (like deleting my old blog accidentally). *Oopsies* :)

What should you do now?

Well, if you want to come back…

Friend Connect is disappearing in March for non-Blogger sites and with it all connections. I brought the widget with me to hopefully bring you all over here and ‘cause I’m curious what’s going happen in March.

However, to make sure you keep me in your feeds, sign up to receive the rss feed or copy my URL and add it to your blogroll or reader.

Join me and register here (in the widget on the right), it’s fun and you can subscribe to specific categories (like Gemstones).

You could also follow me on twitter – I not a huge twitterer, but every now and then, I do spout awesomeness and I do post my blog post there too.

I recommend you sign up (if you haven’t already) with Gravatar. It associates your email address to your avatar. It is used by wordpress and many forums.

Now, about this site:

This is a wordpress site. I moved to wordpress so I could build a site not just a blog. WordPress has cool features like the one mentioned above about following specific categories.

I can also make special headers for special pages. Check out my cooking page for an example.

There is so much more and stuff I’m still learning. I will share it all in upcoming posts.

For those wordpressians out there, I’m using the Suffusion theme by Sayontan Sinha. It’s powerful and extremely well laid out with lots of customizable features.

So, what kind of cookies would you like to have?

  1. Added your new URL to my reader. Great new site. :)

  2. I found you! Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog, otherwise i wouldn’t have known you moved

    • Yeah, I’m hoping Google Reader catches up. According to that help forum post not showing up in Google reader has been happening a lot lately. And now posts from my old Blogger blog aren’t showing up either.

  3. Wow. You know more about WordPress, a LOT more, than I do. On Blogger, as you may have noticed, I direct people to my WP blog to finish reading. My follower icon is gone anyway now from my WP blog. But Bloggers in general don’t know how to do WordPress (I had to get some help too) and are afraid. But maybe they’ll figure out how to do it. I just don’t want to deal with anything else. I don’t want to have to go through Google+ as Karen Gowen said that Bloggers might have to do.

I need to do that with Gravatar that you suggest doing. Hope I can figure it out!

Your blog here is lovely. I’m copying your URL to get it on my WP blogroll. And I’ve checked to subscribe to your posts. I know some followers have done this on my WP blog also.

    • I thin WordPress is intimidating at first because it looks so different. I don’t really want to do Google+ either but we shall see.

I had planned on following your lead and post on blogger as well, but the feeds on my Blogger blog won’t post. Grrr.

Gravatar is super easy. (Way easier than WP :P )

  4. Wow, love the new site, Southpaw. :D

  5. My brother used WordPress on my website, too. I like it. Your new site is great. Thanks for leaving the link so I could find you. I did the Gravatar thingie.

WP does have a learning curve. I was happy I had my brother to help me. Took me forever to figure out how to put up a subscribe thingy. Gees.

But I love how easy it is to put up pages or delete them, etc… My brother is happy, because I’m not bugging him all of the time.

I’m still on blogger though. I ended up splitting posts. I do more writerly type things on Blogger and then do more audience oriented things on the website.

  6. I’m still following through Google Reader! Glad it all worked out. Knew it would. (Bet you weren’t sure though!)

  7. My website is based on a WordPress thingie – see how un-knowledgeable I am? – but someone else set it up. I just use it. I am going to change your link on my blog roll as soon as I leave here. Do I have to sign in or can I just visit? I don’t want it to link to my website. I’m a techie idiot, what can I say?

  8. Congrats on completing your move, love the new digs here. And thanks again for the mention on your sidebar, I do appreciate it :)

Now if you wouldn’t mind, is that chocolate chip cookies I smell baking? I’ll take a few, with a de-caf please …

  9. Hey, your new blog popped up in my blog reader without my having to do anything this time! Your move of old followers must have been successful!

  10. Hi there Southpaw! Well I’m back on the air with blogger. I started signing up with Word Press but it is so complicated because there is so much more available. Now that I’ve rebuilt my blogger site I’m happy with it. Interesting that your brought your Friend Connect. I didn’t know you could do that. That is one big reason I didnt want to move – all your friends have to refollow.

  11. Good luck with the new site :) Love the wisteria pic!
I generally don’t like WordPress, Blogger is much better and user friendly, but the one thing I adore about WordPress is this chain-commenting, where you can directly reply to the comment underneath it and not at the bottom of all other ones. I wish Blogger had that.

  12. Groovy new site! So this is wordpress huh? Wonder why my WP profile doesn’t show up automatically for commenting…

  13. It looks clean, professional and beautiful!

  14. Very cool new place you have here! Congrats! I have heard great and wonderful things about wordpress, so I hope it’s good to you!
